For those of you who have decided to spend your valuable time checking out my posts…I appreciate you, your time, and your comments!
As you may have discerned by some of my previous posts, I am very passionate about Reflexology AND essential oils… a die-hard believer in the healing powers of both. Four years after opening Healing Hands Reflexology in Austin, Texas, I became intrigued with essential oils. I read articles in magazines, as well as online, and I purchased a few small books on aromatherapy. The first oils I began to experiment with were peppermint, lavender and tea tree (melaleuca) oils,. I used them on myself and my husband for a myriad of issues (cuts and scraps, sinus infections, stress, sunburn, headaches, the occasional pimple, etc.).
I learned about different “carrier oils” (almond, coconut, sesame, and olive to name a few) and how to use them. It is important to have a general knowledge of which oils are safe to use topically as essential oils are very powerful and some will burn the skin if not diluted with a carrier oil. Let me give you an example…a friend of mine who is very educated and experienced in using essential oils decided to use oregano oil to get rid of a skin tag on her chest. Oregano is an extremely powerful and “hot” oil which you must be careful with. She applied the oil in a rush to get out the door and got too much on….within minutes she knew there was a problem. The oil had gotten on her tender skin around the skin tag and when she showed it to me a few days later it looked like she had burned herself with a curling iron. OUCH!
I had fun playing with spa-type recipes for bath and foot soak mixtures. I loved using them myself and giving them as gifts to friends and family. Little did I know that this was just the beginning of a whole new world that was opening up to me…and that through integrating the essential oils and aromatherapy into my reflexology practice, it would take my business, and the reflexology experience for my clients, to a whole new level
There are so many single oils and oil blends it can sometimes be overwhelming…which oil should I use for what? Eight years later I am much more knowledgable, but far from an expert…there is so much to learn and so many testimonies… hardly a week goes by that I don’t learn something new about one of the oils or blends, or hear of an amazing result that someone experienced using one or more of the oils.
Stay tuned as I share some of my personal experiences with Reflexology and essential oils that have been nothing short of miraculous.
Again, I appreciate your interest, comments and questions!
